Your post wedding adventure is just as important as your wedding day so don’t let your honeymoon planning go astray. Here are eight things you need to think about before booking your first holiday as husband and wife.

Book early – The earlier the better. Securing your loved up selves a guaranteed good deal will only work if you have time to shop around for the best deals out there. Which will only happen if you don’t leave things to the last minute!

Ask your travel providers about honeymoon deals
– This step is so, so important because your free champagne depends on it! Ok, but seriously, a lot of hotels and venues offer honeymoon deals for those of you that have just said ‘I do’ and if you never ask, you’ll never know. You might get a room upgrade, a candlelit dinner or a free spa treatment! If anything, you might at least get some cake.

Decide on the type of honeymoon you want – There’s no point in looking at beachy, romantic resorts if they’re not your thing. Just because it’s your honeymoon doesn’t mean you need to follow any wedding rules. Are you an adventurous couple? Cultural? Or do you really just want a romantic getaway? These are just a few of the things you’ll need to consider.

Check the weather – You book your wedding date and venue around the weather so why don’t you book your honeymoon around the weather too? Remember the weather where you get married may not match your honeymoon destination so make sure you’re happy with the weather at both locations.

Pack a first aid kit with lots of supplies – Yes, you’ll be jetting away on some alone time together and a first aid kit may be totally un-romantic. But what will be even more un-romantic is if one of you get sick. Or worse – you get food poisoning and you have nothing on hand to save you. Expect the best but be prepared for the worst.

Don’t change your name straight away – Most of the time a bride probably won’t have time to change her name straight away especially if the honeymoon is directly after the wedding. But it is important that your current name matches the name on your passport. It is also important for any visas you may have locked in prior to your departure too.

Don’t forget your passport – Speaking of passports. Don’t forget them! Check, double check and re-check before you leave for the airport. Forgetting this one valuable thing will start your honeymoon adventure on a very sad note.

Take your marriage certificate with you too – It might also be handy to take your marriage certificate with you as well. Especially if you want in on all of those honeymoon deals. Some places will only give you your free honeymoon loot when they see the real thing. So pack it tight.
